Christie Ko
Biography
Hi! My name’s Christie and I am an artist with a passion for creature/monster design and conceptualisation, whether it’s for video games or films. I like to use different types of media such as digital art, painting, traditional drawing, and sculpture. My experience with art medias comes from my visual arts studies during secondary school. In my free time, I like to do photography and I also enjoy playing games where creatures exist in their own universe. Horror/thriller themes come the most natural to me in creature designs, cute and cuddly themes work too but I am never as satisfied with the results as I would be with horror designs. I love to bring my imagination to life, recently beginning to get into animation. I am a constantly growing artist, still trying to uncover my own style.

Creature design
In this project, I not only design a creature’s appearance but also keep in mind its behaviours, abilities, temperament, and other details. I looked at different video games within my desired genre to inspire me, sketching out different designs before deciding on which one to develop.

Game animation concept
I am by no means an animator, not even an amateur animator. Whenever I complete a creature design, the outcome ends as a still digital illustration with no other examples of how it would move or interact with objects. I wanted to broaden my skills so I decided to explore animation. I experimented with hand-drawn animation, drawing frame by frame and the task was too daunting and time consuming so I opted for pixel animation! I’ve always loved pixel sprites anyway so this was a fun decision to make. I created a simple character and made four sprites that conveyed its personality.
